What is Teej?

Teej is a monsoon festival celebrated mainly by women in Rajasthan, North India and Nepal, honouring the union of Shiva and Parvati. Women wear green, sing on swings, fast and apply mehendi as part of the festivities.

Teej explained

There are three Teej festivals: Hariyali, Kajari and Hartalika, falling between July and September. Hariyali Teej is the one most associated with mehendi.

Teej designs feature swings, peacocks, rain and leafy vines, and many families book group mehendi for the day.
