What is Mehendi Balm?

Mehendi balm is any oil or balm - such as coconut oil, mustard oil or a shea-based balm - applied after the paste is removed to moisturise the skin and protect the stain from water, helping the design last longer.

Oils form a light barrier, so applying balm before washing hands or bathing slows fading. Many Indian families use mustard oil warmed slightly.

Avoid products with strong exfoliating acids on the design, as they remove the stained skin layer faster.
