What is Mayun?

Mayun is a pre-wedding ceremony in Pakistani and North Indian Muslim weddings where the bride is anointed with ubtan (a turmeric paste) and traditionally begins a period of rest before the wedding; it often leads into the mehndi function.

Mayun explained

Like the Hindu haldi, mayun is a joyful, yellow-themed event. The bride usually wears yellow and does not get dressed up fully until her wedding day.

Families planning mehendi around mayun often schedule the henna for the evening after ubtan has been washed off.
